Nike of the Salish Sea

A girl, a dream, a story…

My long awaited short story Nike of the Salish Sea was published by Boudin…the spicy online cousin of The McNeese Review in their Blooms in Dusk issue. Took me years to figure out how best to tell the story and get it accepted to a literary journal. It’s 5,000 words, about a 20 minute read if you’re a good reader.

I added a few improvements concerning the references to Marguerite Duras’ The Lover, so please read this updated version of Nike of the Salish Sea if you dare! Click below for the original Boudin magazine version:

Medicine and Martyrs

Medicine and Martyrs tells the story of my nearly year long friendship with Mohammed Kassab, a nineteen-year-old Gaza refugee, who hopes to become a doctor. Published by Dissident Voice magazine.

The Israeli and the Refugee

This is my latest article. It was supposed to be titled The Israeli and the Refugee but ended up being published with the log line: An Oct 7th Survivor Meets a Gaza Refugee. It follows Noy, whose brother Hayim was killed by Hamas on Oct 7th. (both of them had strong pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist views), as Noy tries to meet with Gaza refugee Alaa Jamal online.

The top photo is of Noy, their mother Hannah and brother Hayim.
The bottom photo is of the widow Alaa Jamal and her two children. The photos depict the discrepancy in wealth of both families that has been exasperated by the conflict.

An Israeli Soldier and a Palestinian Fighter Make Peace

Former Israeli soldier Rotem Levin went from tossing grenades into a Palestinian village to living in one. Former Palestinian resistance fighter Osama Iliwat went from spending time in Israeli prisons to hosting Israeli peace activists in the West Bank. Now, both split their time between working with Israeli youth facing military service and traveling worldwide to promote their unique, detailed plan for peace. This is their story.

Glimpses of Gaza – The Cats of Gaza

The newest story in my Glimpses of Gaza series, The Cats of Gaza, has been published by Dissident Voice, an independent political journal. It follows the story of Salah El Din Youssef as he takes care of the stray cats of Gaza with his family.
