My second story in the Glimpses of Gaza series “The Women Who Live Between the Barbed Wire and the Sea” has been published in Z magazine on March 24, 2024.
“The Women Who Live…” weaves together the stories of women from six different families as each of them struggles to cope with war as a refugee, including one, Maryam, who is eight months pregnant and faces imminent death. All stories are true and come from the many women in Gaza I have befriended.

July 17th, 2024 – Update on people mentioned in the story.
Maryam gave birth to her baby prematurely on May 5th, 2024, the same day she was supposed to evacuate to Egypt. Luckily, the baby was small enough because of the premature birth and she did not require a cesarean section. Both baby and mother are doing well, though still stuck in Gaza.
Latifa and her family are still living in Gaza, but are otherwise healthy.
Samah and her family are still living in Gaza, but are otherwise healthy.
I do not know what happened to the woman (I gave her the name Fatima) on the rooftop.
The anonymous 18 year-old woman is living in Gaza and successfully dealing with her mental health issues brought on by the genocidal war.
Mays and her family successfully evacuated to Egypt in late April.
